Single Parents Awareness Day
This year has been tumultuous for many families, and now more than ever we have felt the weight of the current global pandemic on our shoulders, however, no group of people are more deserving of recognition than the parents that are solo parenting, working from home and perhaps experiencing decreased incomes due to furlough or having been laid off. Through all the challenges faced during the covid pandemic, single parents have had to continue to lead by example for their families, with reduced or no support. With over two million single parents in Britain, this fantastic initiative honours their sacrifice and hard work.
Get involved In Single Parents Awareness Day 2021
Gingerbread are the leading national charity working with single parent families. Their aim is to champion their voices and keep their needs at the heart of everything they do. This year they are encouraging single parents to share their stories on Single Parents’ Day across their social media platforms to raise awareness. You can also show support by:
· Reaching out to a single parent in your life
Show support to the single parents you know by calling them, sending them a message or publicly writing an appreciation post for them letting them know that they are doing a great job.
· Use the hashtag #SingleParentsDayUK
By using this hashtag you will show support to any family or friends that are currently experiencing single parenthood and you will help them to feel empowered and supported.
· Read and share stories about single parents
As a single parent, you may wish to read about what other single parents are doing and how they are managing throughout solo parenting and lockdown. You can also share some of Gingerbread stories around your networks of friends, co-workers, and family members to explore.
· Show your support by wearing orange apparel
Share the images on social media to tell your friends and family that you are supporting single parents across England and Wales while encourage them to make a donation of £3 by texting GOGINGER to 70085.
