According to a study published by Today’s Wills and Probate – undertaken by financial service provider Canada Life – millions of Britons remain blind to the new inheritance tax (IHT) rules that will impact pensions from April 2027.
“…only 6% of adults have adjusted their financial plans…”
It is thought that although changes were announced in the Government’s Autumn Budget in October 2024, only 6% of adults have adjusted their financial plans, despite predictions that new changes will nearly double the number of estates liable for IHT and by 2030, almost one in ten estates could be captured by IHT. Furthermore, it is assessed that of those aged 55 or older, only a third are unaware of existing gifting rules that could help reduce IHT liabilities.
