Divorce & Foreign Nationality

Divorce is the process by which your marriage is dissolved and is quite separate from financial negotiations. Following the introduction of no-fault divorce in April 2022, couples no longer have to provide a reason as to why they are divorcing other than that the relationship has irretrievably broken down.

The process usually takes around 6 months, but it is usual not to finalise the divorce until a financial agreement has been reached.

Wherever possible, we shall try and agree the wording of the divorce petition with your spouse to enable the divorce to move forward without delay and avoid unnecessary acrimony.
