Wills and Inheritance Tax Planning

wo out of three people do not have a Will......

...and yet a Will is one of the most important documents you will ever draw up. By making a Will you can provide for family members, consider Inheritance Tax planning, put in place trusts for those in need (young or disabled beneficiaries) or for tax planning, appoint guardians for children under 18, decide at what age young beneficiaries inherit and even set out your funeral wishes.

A Will can be as simple or as complex as you wish but by drawing up a Will it puts you in control.  Without a Will, your 'estate' will be distributed according to the Intestacy rules, which were set down by law dating from 1925. Under these rules your children inherit at 18 (potentially quite a young age to receive an inheritance) and unmarried partners or friends will not be provided for (as the Intestacy rules only provide for blood relatives).  Further, although spouses and Civil Partners are considered main beneficiaries, it does not mean that they will inherit all of the estate outright - if you have children your estate may be partly held in trust and shared with the children, which can be difficult to manage.

Contact us today to put a Will in place and you can then get on with living.......

In terms of costs, we believe that the service we provide is the best value for money in the area.  We charge on a fixed fee basis and also offer discounts for two 'mirror' Wills drawn up together (say, for couples).  This includes meeting with you at a time convenient to you to discuss the Wills, drafting the Wills as well as any Letter of Wishes to meet your needs and expand on the Will and then meeting with you again for signing.

As part of the Will making process we advise generally on Inheritance Tax planning including the nil rate band, the transferable nil rate band and other options to save Inheritance Tax.

We will also register at no charge (usually there is a fee of £30) the whereabouts of your Will with the Certainty National Will Register so you can be secure in the knowledge that your Will will always be found.
